Lead Embedded Software Engineer – FADEC / Engine Controls
Job Description
Cyient’s aerospace team in East Hartford is seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to advance safety-critical engine control software for FADEC and related engine controls. This role blends hands-on development with technical leadership across controls, hardware, systems, and certification teams, guiding cross-functional groups toward robust, certifiable software for aero engines.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safety-critical engine control solutions for major OEMs.
- Plan, estimate, track, and report software design tasks, schedules, and resources.
- Drive technical decision-making, risk management, and issue resolution.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Interface with customers to support integration and debugging at test facilities.
- Participate in Agile workflows and present progress to integrated product teams.
- Develop FADEC/PHMU hardware, operating system, communication, and interface architectures.
- Decompose system-level and customer requirements into detailed software requirements and designs.
- Review and approve software requirements and design artifacts within an Agile framework.
- Develop low-level embedded C software for real-time target processors.
- Perform hardware–software integration, debugging, and system-level testing.
- Support configuration management, issue tracking, and continuous process improvement.
- Produce and support certification documentation for safety-critical software (DO-178C).
- Capture and maintain embedded software workflows (ESW) aligned with corporate policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, with 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
- Experience on aero engine controls or FADEC software teams.
- Hands-on experience with DO-178C or equivalent certification standards.
- Strong expertise in control-system software architecture, requirements, and design.
- Proficiency in C; assembly and scripting languages are a plus.
- Experience using logic analyzers, emulators, and specialized test hardware.
