Senior Software Engineer - Active Secret clearance - $5,000 Sign On Bonus

General Dynamics Mission Systems is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to advance the Payload Control System, with a focus on SWFTS, Cyber, and software infrastructure. This on-site opportunity in Middletown, Rhode Island offers a salary range of $118,570 to $131,539 per year plus a $5,000 sign-on bonus, and requires a DoD Secret security clearance at the time of hire.

Role and position objectives

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support the SWFTS, Cyber, and Software Infrastructure functional areas. The role blends hands-on software development with technical leadership and coordination across teams on the Payload Control System.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement code for new Capability Items
• Investigate and resolve Problem Trouble Reports
• Collaborate with other functional areas to support PTR investigations
• Ensure PCS operates in SELinux enforcing mode
• Mentor and assist junior engineers in their technical development
• Identify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation
• Lead and facilitate the SWFTS functional area PTRB
• Assign and manage SWFTS-related PTRs across team members
• Review work products to ensure PTRB acceptability and quality standards
• Monitor SWFTS Jira for new PTRs, assess PCS impact, and maintain cross-Jira traceability
• Participate in SWFTS Middleware and Messaging Working Groups
• Author Functional Design Documents and collaborate with government stakeholders to resolve comments
• Review test procedures for accuracy, completeness, and requirements coverage
• Prepare SWFTS Baseline Change Requests documenting inter-subsystem interface changes from new or deprecated PCS functionality
• Serve as primary point of contact between PCS and external subsystems for program interfaces

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field
• 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master’s degree plus 3 years of job-related experience
• Agile experience preferred
• Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire; applicants will undergo a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
• U.S. citizenship is required
